Black Authors post, Day 2.

Today’s author is fiction and mystery writer Eric Jerome Dickey.

Dickey was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1961. He earned his degree in Computer System Technology from University of Memphis. After he graduated, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering.

While working as a software developer in the aerospace industry, Dickey started to dabble in acting and stand-up comedy. He began taking creative writing classes, and eventually moved from writing stand-up comedy scripts to writing poetry and short stories. He joined International Black Writers & Artists Association.

In 1994, he published his first short story, Thirteen. After publishing other short stories, he wrote the screenplay for the short film Cappuccino, which debuted in 1998. After these successes, Dickey set out to write novels and pursue a career in writing novels. His first novel, Sister, Sister, was published in 1996. He went on to publish several more novels, mostly fictional depictions of romantic relationships among young Black professionals. Several of his books have been published in other languages, and two of his novels were adapted into touring plays.

Dickey is a five-time winner of the NAACP Image Awards.

Dickey passed away January 5, 2021, at the age of 59.
